Do you know another LutherNole?

Do you know another LutherNole? Who did you attend FSU or University Lutheran with? Are they connected to a Lutheran church today? We would love to know about them and get them connected. Our vision for the LutherNoles was to put together a network of people that were a force for good coming out of their connection with Lutheran theology and Tallahassee. We think the more that we can work together, the better we can serve the generations of students that will continue to stream out of University Lutheran and FSU. In order to do that, we have to expand our network out to be big enough to make an impact.
This is where you come in. You’re already a LutherNole – you know about the network, but so many other Lutheran alumni of Florida State aren’t aware. We want you to look at your facebook friends, your address books, and your old photos — who might be a part of this movement of alumni? your old roommate? someone that you went on a mission trip with?

We ask that you would do one of two things:

Our goal this year is to grow the LutherNole network from 30 members to 100 members. That means we need to find 70 alumni that we haven’t previously connected with. Help us reach this goal for the glory of God!

LutherNole Gift Opportunity: What is this that I hear…

Food trucks! If you follow the University Lutheran social media outlets ( fb: universitylutheran twitter: fsulutheran instagram: universitylutheran ) you will see that we have been hosting food trucks in the lot of University Lutheran. Our idea is that by having food trucks in our lot, we will be able to connect with the people who come by to grab a bite to eat, and by our hospitality, help people begin to get curious about what it means to be connected to Jesus. But we need your help. We need some picnic tables that people can sit at while they are having their lunch which will allow us to be able to talk about them. If you’re interested in helping out with $10 or $20, you can help us purchase those tables. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has already helped us with advertising, so we’re looking to our LutherNoles to help us with these tables.

Make that gift count

Everyone is getting ready for the new year, including here at University Lutheran and FSU.
Here at the LutherNole Network, we would ask that you would consider
giving a year-end gift to University Lutheran.
University Lutheran has several new and exciting programs that we are
looking to fund in 2016.

Among them are a devotional tool based on the lectionary (the Sunday
readings) that could be used by people at FSU, our “deployed” LutherNoles,
and throughout the country. We’re looking at the possibilities of
podcasting, videos, and even a possible quarterly slick magazine format.

We are additionally looking into a new avenue for ministry that we are
calling “Locals”. Locals will be small groups of University Lutherans who
get together on campus and in our city of Tallahassee. These small groups
will not only share what Christ is doing in their individual lives, but
will seek out some practical good that they can do in the local area that
they meet in. We hope to have at least three Locals up and running this
year.

As mentioned in an earlier article, we are seeking to find more
LutherNoles so that we might be able to do more with this group and help
our alumni help one another. We are seeking to go from just over 30
LutherNoles to at least 100 LutherNoles by this time next year.

Lastly, we are doing a Mission Sustainability and Growth study at
University Lutheran that could lead to some exciting things – including
bring food trucks to the University Lutheran parking lot so that we can
develop a “meeting space” for our neighborhood and much much more.

Spring LutherNoles heading out

Spring graduation is sending three new LutherNoles out into the world:
Anna Farley, Evan Rau, and Caroline Tesch.

Anna Farley completed her graduate degree in vocal performance and was our
choir director for the past two years. She is currently looking for where life will take her next – including looking for job opportunities in
higher education teaching music, as well as auditioning for a variety of
operas and such. If you know someone who might be helpful to Anna as she
looks for these jobs, please let us know.

Evan Rau completed both his bachelors and masters degrees at FSU, acting
as a student leader in the “Campus Disciples” leadership program, and
being “Pro-Usher” — a title we’re pretty sure that he gave himself, but
we appreciate his ready willingness to be usher for a worship service at a
moment’s notice. Evan is going to be looking for a job in the GIS-mapping and related
fields. If you know of someone who is seeking skills like Evan’s, please
let us know so that we can connect you with him. Evan is also moving back
home to do his job hunting, and so we ask that you might let us know if
you know any LutherNoles in the West Virginia area.

Caroline Tesch completed her bachelors degree at FSU, serving this past
year as the president of our Lutheran Student Fellowship group. She is
graduating with a double major in art and psychology. Caroline is looking
into graduate school for Art Therapy. If you have any advice or work in
this vocation, please let us know so that we can connect you with her.
As always, we’re always looking for people of all sorts of vocations that
would be interested in being mentors either in a general way to one of our
undergraduate students, or mentoring someone in a specific vocation. If

What can $8 do?

Eight dollars. That is what it takes to serve communion at University Lutheran every Sunday. Most of that cost is for the super sweet Manischewitz communion wine that you might remember from your time at University Lutheran, and just a little bit for the communion wafers. But this meal is really worth so much more than just $8 because of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ took 5 loaves and 2 fish and fed over 5,000 people. Every Sunday at University Lutheran, He takes $8 worth of wine and bread and gives us His priceless Body and Blood in, with, and under those elements. We want you to have an opportunity to help the ministry at University Lutheran by joining the Eight Dollar Club. Luthernole Interview with Caitlin

Question 1: Caitlin, you weren’t with us for your entire undergraduate career, but you were a freshmen here at FSU before you transferred to the University of Alabama-Birmingham. How is FSU different or similar to UAB?

Haha, great question! Electrospinning uses a strong electrical field to draw fibers from a liquid polymer solution (natural or synthetic).

New LutherNoles Graduate

It’s summer in Tallahassee which means that graduation is in the air. This May, University Lutheran roasted several new LutherNoles into existence. Our new alumni are going all sorts of places with all kinds of degrees: Edson had been going to medical school here at FSU, but is moving down to Orlando to do his residency. Anna is graduating with her masters in vocal performance, and is figuring out her next move. Evan graduated with his undergraduate degree and is moving on to a graduate degree in Geography here at Florida State and remains with us here in Tallahassee. Caroline also graduated with her undergraduate degree in Art Therapy, and is looking at graduate schools. Justin graduated with a masters in meteorology and is looking for jobs and where he might move. The diversity of majors and places that these LutherNoles are headed to reminds us of the mission statement of the LutherNole Network: “The LutherNole Network seeks to make connections between Lutheran ‘Nole alumni, and graduating students heading out into the real world. Through this we seek to strengthen the spiritual connections in the Body of Christ of our FSU family.” If you have any connection with these most recent LutherNoles, either if you live in a city where they are headed to, or if you are involved in their vocation/field of study.
